The Midnight Shepherds, a blues band from Mobile, Alabama, officially released its first original song, a live version of "Lover Boy Blues", October 28th, 2022. This is sure to be the first of many for this talented band. The tune is available on all music platforms.

Members of The Midnight Shepherds include Brady Reeves (vocals and guitar); Turner “Bluesman” Mason (lead guitar); Phillip Multi-Funk Whigham (bass and vocals); Matt Johnson (drums).  The band has existed since 2018, and Reeves, Mason, and Johnson have been there from the beginning.

The Midnight Shepherds have
played all over the Gulf Coast from Mississippi to Florida, including over 300 shows at The Hangout in Gulf Shores, Alabama.  The band has opened for Texas blues legend Ian Moore.  They have hosted the North West Florida Blues Society events, and there was a feature story about “Lover Boy Blues” written in an international blues publication based in Almira, Spain, called The Blues Club Magazine.

The live version of “Lover Boy Blues” was recorded in 2018 at the Wind Creek Casino in Atmore, Alabama.  The song was written by Turner Mason.  He shares that it is based on “a combination of break-ups and pouring my heart out”. Mason says he wrote “Lover Boy Blues” in 2015 when he was in a bad situation, and he channeled the brokenness into the song. He states he was influenced by “From The Cradle” by Eric Clapton.  After sitting on “Lover Boy Blues” for a while, he felt that Reeves was the perfect person to sing it and convey the emotion.

The theme of the song is summed up in the lines:
“I was standing there feeling like a fool
You said we had a future but you lied to me
You said we had a future babe but lied to me
You said you were damaged but I was blind and could not see”

“Lover Boy Blues” draws the listener in right away with classic guitar riffs. This song makes you want to sit back, kick up your feet, and just get lost in the music.
Around two and a half minutes into the track, there is a guitar solo of over two minutes that is complex and riveting, yet also relaxed. When the vocals kick back in, they are a little more intense than at the beginning of the song, revealing the emotion of the lyrics.  The track ends emphatically with a heavy guitar solo.

The Midnight Shepherds are looking to book shows on the Gulf Coast and beyond. They bring a high-powered show to every venue with a great mixture of blues, southern rock, funk, and country.  The band is also working on new music.  The Midnight Shepherds can be found on Facebook, Instagram, the band's website, and YouTube.
